Charles Dickens's Tale of Two Cities is one of my favorite novels, and I consider it to be his very best work. A love story with fairy tale-esque hardships, evil villains, and heroes that might not be, except for the crazy times in which they find themselves. A story, ultimately, of redemption and sacrifice.

The past nine months of my life have been akin to Dr. Manette in his attic chamber, making shoes. I have been held prisoner by pain, fatigue, and immobility. I have looked out my window at a courtyard that beckons and yet frightens me. When falling is a real danger, you tend to stick to your chair like a bramble to a sock. I could have gone out, but to where and what for and why bother?

But just as Dr. Manette's friends came for him, so my friends have not left me to rot and ruin. I've been looked after and cared for, encouraged and supported, and no doubt prayed for.

And finally I have left my figurative attic chamber. Slowly at first, yes, but I am moving again, with less pain and more hope. Thank you for your patience during my hiatus from writing. This post is simply to say I am back! Soon I'll be back to my schedule of posts three times a week. Post comments if you have topics you'd like me to discuss, perhaps something you wish to know more about but don't have time to research, or a current events issue. I look forward to posting again soon!
