How blessed is the man who does not walk in the way of the wicked...

But his delight is in the law of the LORD,

And on His law he meditates day and night. Psalm 1: 1-2

What do you delight in? I find pleasure in a good cup of coffee. It doesn't have to be an expensive cup of coffee, mind you. I prefer DD to Starbucks. I want plain coffee with cream and sugar, not a latte or macchiato or espresso. I don't care where they beans came from.

But I do love my coffee!

* * *

Psalm 1 tells us to love the word of God the way we love coffee. Or chocolate, or entertainment, or love. Merriam-Webster tells us that delight is great pleasure or satisfaction.

Is it possible to delight in God the way I delight in coffee? I don't know.

My cup of coffee is soon empty. The Word of God is always relevant, always profitable for teaching, instructing, correcting, and training in righteousness.

My cup of coffee grows cold. The love of God: never! Nothing can separate us from His love. Not height, not depth, not angels, not demons, not fire or nakedness or sword -- God's love will never grow cold.

My cup of coffee is solitary, unless I invite someone to share it. God wants relationship with me, just as I enjoy chatting with a friend over a cup of coffee.

Is it possible to love God the way I love my coffee? I don't know.

My day will progress poorly without my morning coffee. My afternoon will end in drudgery without a second trip to DD. My habits incorporate coffee. Relaxation requires coffee.

Is it possible to desire God the way I desire coffee? I don't know.

But I want to desire Him more.
