The Pieces Make a Whole

Have you ever bought a hand-made quilt? Not a machine-made, mass-produced item with matching shams, but a cut-and-sewn masterpiece? I've never bought one, myself, because they are always so expensive, but I enjoy looking at them. They are works of art!
I've subscribed to the YouTube channel hosted by The Missouri Star Quilt Company. Jenny guides her viewers in creating fun and simple quilts. What always strikes me, though, is how simple triangles and squares can become a field of tulips or how rectangular strips can be used to make a log cabin or a "two step" quilt.
My favorite quilt so far has been the bargello quilt. It's more complicated than log cabins or tulips. It is strip after strip sewn together as tubes and then cut at various lengths. You watch her sew these together and cut them apart; it seems like unnecessary work. But when it is finally together, it is an undulating ocean of color, and you sit back in wonder.

Is your life falling apart? The marriage, the kids, the job, the finances. Does it feel like the world is falling down around you ears?
Is everything falling to pieces?
"I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11
God is not a watchmaker in the sky, but He is a quilt maker. He takes torn and cut pieces that have no reason to fit together, pieces from different patterned fabric, combining colors and textures until He has formed a beautiful quilt of our lives.
Jenny's quilts are no doubt beautiful works of art. But as much as we adore them, quilts were not created to hang on a bar. They are created to give warmth and comfort.
As our lives are meant to do for those around us. Those who know God and those who don't.
A huge piece of fabric is not a quilt. A quilt is created with pieces, and sewn together until it makes a whole.
God's plans have a purpose. "Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:12-13
When your world is falling to pieces, just wait! God's still sewing.
