You all have watched me plod through my annual Fiction Fast, and I've shared my insights from Nicholas Carr's The Shallows: How the Internet Has Changed Our Brains. His book challenged me to spend more time reading and to expand my repertoire beyond the usual history, science, or murder mysteries.
So I will spend September reading some philosophy.
Another truth I took away from The Shallows is the necessity to know our history, specifically as Americans. I've been overwhelmed to the point of nausea with the political posts filling my newsfeed and twitter account. But I wonder how many of those posters and sharers know where our country's ideals originated.
So I'll be sharing what I read here. My goal is to pass the challenge along and perhaps inspire at least one more American to do a bit of reading on his or her own.
I'll be starting with Rousseau. Stay tuned!
