Pieces of a Heart

It's no secret that I enjoy the beauty of handmade quilts, and I've written before about Jennie Doan and the Missouri Star Quilt Company. Quilters have a reputation for generosity. Not only do individual quilters give away their works of art to make room to make more; quilters circles also come together to pour their hearts and prick their fingers for a good cause.
The Missouri Star Quilt Company has come to the fore again on this blog because of their generosity.
Last fall, Houston, Florida, and the Caribbean were hit by a series of destructive hurricanes. Few of us know the hardship of losing absolutely everything. The on-going emotional needs go unmet, because the comforts of home that you might otherwise reach for are gone.
Including the soft blankets and fluffy toys and that special mug.
Missouri Star couldn't do anything about plush toys and mugs, but they know blankets. Quilts to be exact. What they organized is incredible, and I'm sure that even eight months later, the hurricane victims were grateful, glad that they have not been forgotten. Watch the video to learn how many quilts they gathered and gave away.
I love quilts, but I'm not a quilter. Not a crafter in any sense. Perhaps you're a quilter or crafter, or not. Perhaps you're an organizer or administrator. Whatever your gift, have you seen something in our world that would benefit from a piece of your heart?
