Known

The world is broken. We all know it. People are sinful, and we know that, too. Yet, despite the knowledge that people may hurt us, we still desire to be known deeply and intimately by someone who loves us. I realized something today.
God wants to be known, too.
John 17:3 "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you sent."
Before the creation of the world, God was in perfect communion with Himself. We call it the Trinity, and when you fully wrap your head around all that means, let me know. It's one of those things I always feel is just out of mental reach. I never quite grasp it. Suffice to say, for now, that God had the deep connection we all long for.
And yet He created us.
He didn't need to. We give Him nothing that the angels don't; they were created for worship. So are we, but more than that. We can have something the angels never will have: intimacy with God as our Abba Father. We certainly gain from this relationship. We can approach God with confidence, and this relationship gives us boldness in other areas of life because we know we are loved and secure.
But more than that!
We can know God. Know who He is. Know what makes Him tick. Know what His characteristics are and what His character is. Know what He loves and what He hates. Know what brings Him joy and what makes Him weep.
We can know God, as much as a finite being can.
We can know God. Wrap your mind around that.
